I used a pattern from
www.ragdollmakers.com. I tried
to locate the site again, but it's not responding. Anyway, the doll was
supposed to be a country-style doll, but when I made her face, she
demanded to be a flapper! Go figure... ; ) I just need to
find some pearls for a necklace...

Gromet is a study in
exaggeration. I wanted to stretch myself and try to create a doll
with exaggerated features. He now lives with Sardonicus. |

My dad spent a month
in the hospital and had emergency surgery for an aneurism found next to
his stomach. I made the mermaid to cheer him up while he recovered
in ICU. She sat next to his bed, until he was able to take her home.

I made the dolls
from a free pattern by Sue Farmer.
It's her version of the Izzanah
Walker (I'm not sure of the name) dolls.
Sue offered the pattern
to the Clothdollmaking doll list. they were a challenge for me,
because I haven't "painted" a doll before.
The construction
The doll
construction was easy and she provided pictures of the finished product,
but no instructions on how to paint or construct the clothing. It
was an interesting experience!

I gave my daughter a
birthday card by fantasy artist, Amy Brown and found out that she likes
fairies. I affectionately call my daughter "The Brat" and
the card happened to be called that, so I decided to make the main character
on the card for her.
I am not selling
this doll.
It was made as a
gift for my daughter.

This is the link to
see all of Amy Brown. So you can see her work. |

| Lanihuli
This is my version
of Clothdollmaking's (Phyllis) "Clothing doll challenge". I
made the doll for my mom for her birthday (4/14).
Her name is Lanihuli (Mom's middle name) and she's a lei maker. I
wanted to give Mom something reflecting her culture... I just wish I had
some Hawaiian-looking fabric for the doll to wear. Mom told me the
doll looked Mexican... (sniff...) ; ) No, I'm not hurt...
sniff, sniff.... LOL!!!
I don't work very well with muslin and forgot that muslin wrinkles when
youb try to sculpt it... screwed up the nose... oh well! |

black or white, except the hair and the doll's makeup. Dad has this
one! |

| Gargie
My mother approached
me about making a doll for one of her co-workers. His seven year-old
son was going to have open-heart surgery. Mom asked me to make a
teddy bear, but I thought, how boring! I came up with my Guardian
Gargoyle, or Gargie for short. The boy loved him and was allowed to
keep Gargie in bed with him through his full recovery in the hospital.
Since then, I have made several more Gargies, one of which presides with
Charles and Lisa Juris.
Gargie's wife is soon
to come (honest!!!! ; ) ).

| Wedding
centerpiece
I created this
centerpiece for my brother for his wedding day. It was my first
attempt at using Sculpey,oven-dried polymer clay. The base is
actual sand.
On our way to the
church, someone had placed the centerpiece on an ironing board, which was
bumped... yes, the centerpiece broke into several pieces! I missed my brother's actual wedding ceremony, so I
could fix the centerpiece and finally get myself ready.
Sadly, when my brother
was on his honeymoon, someone took the centerpiece home and didn't tell
him. They kept it for two years before telling him they had it (it
was packed away and out of sight). I am not kidding... days before
my brother was able to pick it up, it was thrown into a dumpster, because
the person thought it was junk cluttering up his garage. This
picture is all that is left. |

| Lapiki
"Lapiki",
means "rabbit" in Samoan. My family said her ears looked
like rabbit ears.... My hubby's nickname from his family is Lapiki
ears (whatever...LOL), so I thought that was a cute name... |

| Angel
with rosary beads
I made this pin doll
for an online friend that makes rosaries. |
|
 |
| Chloe
Chloe was made for my
first online doll swap. The swap was called the Zodiac swap.
We had to create a doll representing the zodiac sign of our partner.
My partner was a female Taurus... bull? I was at a loss, so I
decided to make a bull costume for the little girl. Taurus people
(at least me dad!) are "stubborn and Bull-headed", so she has
the stubborn look. She stands by herself when she wears the costume
and she crosses her arms to pout, when the costume is off. |

Mohawk
Is not a pin doll, but
a small 8" doll with a Mohawk made of beads. |
 |
| Wizard
One of my first dolls.
Made around the same time as the "Elf Queen". |
 |
| Ruth
II
I fell in love with a
fantasy book series called "The Dragonriders of Pern" by Anne
McCaffrey. This is one of the characters from the cover of one of
the books. The artist's name is Michael Whelan. I love his
work!
I created this doll
using an armature of hanger wire wrapped with white yarn. Then I hand
sewed batting onto the structure for form muscles.
Next, I hand sewed the
"skin" (white lycra) and finally, glued flat-sided marbles in
the eye sockets. I was pretty disappointed in the way I tried to
construct the wings... I couldn't make them strong enough to stay open,
without losing the beauty of the webbing between the "bones".
I wanted to make the complete scene from the cover (which was his rider
and a few tiny dragons), but due to unforeseen circumstances, Ruth was
irreparably damaged. |

Elf
Queen
This
is one of my first serious attempts at doll making. My first time
making separate fingers.
|
 |
| Purple
Jester
This is my first
attempt at making a complete doll with props.
His face, hands and
body are made of velour. My first attempt at making an older-looking
character.
The costume is made of
satin and lame and accented with crystal beads. Beads also accent
his stockings.
His "jester
stick" has a face of muslin, softly sculpted and hand painted.
The "throne"
is made of Styrofoam, plaster with paper pulp added, and painted with
"stone-fleck" spray paint.
I had him on display
at a local "craft mall" with no intention of selling him.
I was told I had to put a price on him, so make it high and no one will be
interested. I priced him at $300 and he sold that weekend...!?!
Oh well... ; ) |
