Flynn
This is a Lynne Butcher design and was
made from her internet class. He is needle sculpted lycra over cloth.
His under-body is white cotton, stuffed very firmly with a layer of
flesh colored lycra over the top. He has wired fingers and ears. His
features are hand applied using colored pencils and pens. His finger and
toe nails are painted with gold glitter paint. His pants and hat are
made from double-stretch green velour. He is seated in a stationary
position and his arms are also attached in a stationary fashion. All
the lace embellishments dotting his costuming and body are hand
painted. I couldn't resist perching the butterfly on his knee as the
final touch.

Elizabeth
This is a Mother Earth and Me
design. Her head, hands and legs are made from brown Kona
cotton. Her nose is needle sculpted and her features are hand
applied using acrylic paint and pencils. She has needle sculpted
fingers and toes and they didn't look finished without a bit of color
using prisma pencils . Her costuming is quite detailed. Her body
is made from a teal striped printed fabric, she has peach
pantaloons, peach print dress with teal print accent at the wrists and
hem, peach over-dress with teal print accent around the neckline with
pin tucking and accent buttons and her sandals are made from layered
cork with teal rattail cord ties. Her hair is shiny black acrylic
three ply macramé cord that I separated and combed out after
attaching. She has a large teal bow atop her head.

Miss Maggy
This was made from a Sylvia Schorr
design. She was designed with a flat face but I went one step further
and added a profiled face. Her body, head and hand/arms are made from
a flesh colored poly/cotton blend. Her face is lightly sculpted and
the features are hand applied using pens and pencils. Her bodice and
sleeves are covered with wired ribbon and embellished with
antique lace and beads and at her wrists is silk ribbon. Her
lower body/dress is made from gold jacquard upholstery fabric. Her
hair is wool roving and she is wearing a gold felt adorned with
feathers and a flowered ribbon that is not visible in this view. For
the final touch, she is wearing a burgundy crystal
necklace.

"Little
Urchin"
I have to say I am very proud of
this doll, "Little Urchin", because she won a second place
ribbon in the Big Horn Quilts "Summer Picnic Challenge"
2002.She is a Jane Coughlan design. Her
head, body, arms and legs are made from flesh colored Kona cotton. Her
face, fingers and toes are needle sculpted and her features are
hand applied using acrylic paint and pens. She has separate,
wired fingers and a separate big toe. Her finger and toe nails
are hand painted using acrylic paint. Her arms are button jointed. Her
hair is long blond fur and it just had to be mussed to give her
just the right look. The fabrics for her costuming were supplied
by Big Horn Quilts to use in this competition. She is wearing tan
print pantaloons, a red print under-skirt and her over-dress is a bear
picnic print. At the lower front edge of the over-dress are yo-yos
I mad made and then attached using red heart buttons. Her final
touch is the little frog she is holding. He had bead eyes and is
filled with plastic pellets so he sits nicely in her hands.

Cooter
This was a fun bear to make. He was
designed by Jim and Judy Mystrol and the name of their company is
"Grub and Rustle Bears". He is made of a curly synthetic fur.
Although this picture doesn't show it, his paws and feet are appliquéd
He has a sculpted face and hand stitched nose and mouth. He has
glass eyes and is fully jointed. He is wearing overalls, a felt hat and
of course glasses so he can find his way around the farm. |

Woman Challenge
This was a
Challenge that was put on by Di McDonald, I chose to make
my "woman as "The Tree of Life".
I decided to use fabric that has
wood grain print. I also used rubber stamps for her face and for
the sayings on her body. Her head, body, hands and feet are beaded
and then I made her head piece to resemble the branches of a tree.
The branches are beaded wire that sprout from her fingers and head.

Coco
This doll was a black and white
challenge project from Diane McDonald. She shared the pattern for the
head, arms and body but the costuming and the embellishment was us
to the individual participant. This is what came out of my head,
She was a really fun project.

"Harpo's
Night at the Opera"
was made for an
online doll challenge. This doll took a third place in that competition. The
requirement was to make a doll with all black and white. This doll is a
Jesse Chandler design. His head, body and arms are made of white
cotton. His legs are made of a black cotton print. His head
is cotton lycra over white cotton. He has needle sculpted features
that have been colored with pens and pencils. He has separate, wired
fingers. In place of hair I opted to use the same bead trim that I
used on the hems of his sleeves, tunic hem and at the hem of his pants.
He tunic is cotton print, his collar is a poly moiré fabric and his
pants, hat and slippers are made from velvet. The ribbon roses on
his hat, tunic and slippers are hand made and beaded and pearls
adorn his slippers. I didn't want to use the usual doll stand for him so
I used a wood plaque and dowel, painted them black, used some
acrylic finish to make it shiny and then hand drew the white squiggles on
the plaque to match the print of his tunic. |
